BeSuper Eco bamboo wipes are made of 100% biodegradable bamboo, and are free from fragrance, parabens, phthalates and chlorine.
As for the other ingredients, all water wipes – no matter which brand – must have small amounts of other ingredients (generally just 0.01%) along with the 99.9% water to keep them fresh.
The extra ingredients in our wipes are listed using the chemical names rather than common names, which we understand can look a little daunting! However they are all simply food-grade ingredients included in tiny amounts: they have been combined to allow them to work together in the best way with the smallest possible quantities. This ensures that we can use the least amounts of additives possible, while also making sure that the wipes stay sterile and cannot grow any bacteria or mould.
The ingredients are: 100% Bamboo fibre, Purified water, Glycerin, 1,3-butanediol, Aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) extract, Cetylpyridinium chloride, Ethylhexylglycerin, Chlorphenesin and Gluconolactone.
Breaking that down…
Water (aqua)
Water is a crucial ingredient in baby wipes as it’s a carrier and diluent for the other ingredients. We use extensive filtration to ensure that only the purest water is in our wipes.
Glycerin
Vegetable oil. As a humectant (locks in moisture), glycerin is a non-toxic, viscous liquid that helps our wipes hold water, ensuring they’re moist and gentle on baby’s skin. In addition, it has some antimicrobial and antiviral properties, providing protection from skin irritants, hydrating skin, and supporting the healing of irritated skin.
Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract
The botanical name for aloe vera, aloe barbadensis is a powerful, natural skin-conditioning agent that has been used medicinally for centuries, as it has wound-healing properties. It’s especially beneficial as a baby wipe ingredient because it has a moisturising and anti-inflammatory effect, and leaves behind a protective layer on the skin after drying. This protective layer can be supportive in the healing of irritated skin.
1,3-Butanediol
A moisturiser which also inhibits mould growth.
Cetylpyridinium chloride
An antiseptic. The organic chloride salt of cetylpyridinium, this is the main antimicrobial agent in our formulation.
Ethylhexylglycerin
A moisturiser, preservative and antibacterial agent, which also boosts the effectiveness of other preservatives and helps with skin hydration without leaving a sticky feel.
Chlorphenesin
A water- and glycerin-soluble preservative which inhibits water contamination and helps to prevent unwanted odours on skin.
Gluconolactone
A very gentle preservative which also has some antimicrobial and antiseptic properties, and inhibits the growth of bacteria on wipes. It has been found to hydrate the skin, is ideal for sensitive skin, and has antioxidant properties as well.
So while we definitely do not recommend them as a meal – our wipes are vegan-friendly and could technically be eaten (though they’d be pretty bland and tough, in our opinion. Pass the Wattie’s tomato sauce?!)
